Program Update: Winter Cohort Celebration
We’re at the halfway point for our ‘24-’25 Educator Coaching Program Cohort!
We celebrated the fall season with our school teams right before winter break. All eight of our partner schools showed up and represented! We enjoyed good food and connected with each other. And FONA-style, we deepened our relationship with the earth. Qubilah Huddleston, FONA’s 24’ season garden assistant, moonlights as an herbalist. She led our cohort in using dried herbs and flowers from the garden in making DIY infused honey, salt, or sugar. Once harvested, dry and save your herbs and flowers! Then you can extend garden content through the winter. Each participant made an herbal infused honey, plus an herbal salt or sugar. They also took materials back to try some herbalism with their students.
Our gears are turning now that we’re in 2025. We’re checking in with our school partners to assess the goals we set as a team at the beginning of the year. Right now is the best time to make plans for the spring and even begin to start seeds for your spring and summer crops. Friendship Woodridge PCS is focusing on extending their composting program with vermicomposting. This is an easy way to tie in composting in your garden without adding a lot of infrastructure.
